A14 Improvement Group

Working together to promote investment in the A14 corridor

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, Suffolk County Council, Transport East and other partners are working together to attract investment to the A14 Corridor, stimulating sustainable economic growth for Suffolk and the wider UK.

Our goal is to secure vital funding to:

  • Upgrade the rail junction at Ely and Haughley, which will reduce remove 98,000 lorry journeys off the road each year

  • Roll out wider 5G connectivity, transforming business operations

  • Expand the network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points

  • Improve critical A14 junctions, including the Copdock interchange, to ease congestion, enhance safety, and cut carbon emissions

The A14 Growth Corridor campaign group brings the voice of local businesses into the conversation, championing strategic improvements that matter most to the region. The group includes businesses from diverse sectors alongside Transport East, the regional transport body, and operates as a task & finish group under the Chamber’s long-established Transport & Infrastructure Group (TIG).

Steve Britt, previous Chair of the group, explained that: “This group is all about the art of the possible – trying to nudge tactical projects over the line along the corridor from Felixstowe to the Cambridgeshire border that in turn improve our collective case for further infrastructure investment, not only road and rail but 5G and EV charging points as well.”
