Suffolk Chamber Welcomes Chancellor’s New Business Support Measures
John Dugmore, chief executive, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce:
“This is good news for qualifying businesses in Suffolk’s important creative, hospitality and leisure sectors in the short term.
“We are especially pleased that the Chancellor has listened to the real world challenges faced by our members at this time. After intense lobbying by chambers of commerce up and down the country, including Suffolk Chamber, via the British Chambers of Commerce who met with Rishi Sunak last week, we have secured some welcome respite for many of those businesses who have been hit hardest by the latest Covid measures.
“We are now looking to our local government partners to distribute the promised grants as speedily as possible as these will provide vital financial lifelines over what should have been the busiest trading period for many firms
“Whilst these measures are a positive starting point, if restrictions persist or are tightened further, then we would need to see a wider support package, equal to the scale of any new measures, put in place. We also repeat our call that the Government lays out these provisional plans sooner rather than later to avoid any further damaging trading cliff edges for the business community.”
