Suffolk Chamber backs VAT campaign, urging Government to support the hospitality sector
A new campaign led by chef Tom Kerridge is calling on Government to reduce hospitality VAT to 10%. The initiative is bringing together businesses, chefs and industry bodies from across the sector, with organisations encouraged to support the campaign by signing and sharing the petition.
Suffolk Chamber believes that the whole corporate taxation system needs to be comprehensively overhauled to promote and not punish business growth and risk-taking, since everything from Business Rates to NI Employer Contributions ultimately tax the wrong things!
We also believe that the utterly unacceptable high levels of business taxes across the board need to be progressively reduced throughout the remainder of this Parliament in order to liberate business owners and management teams to invest in staff and new technologies. That is why we wholeheartedly back Tom Kerridge and his #VATsTheProblem petition. Ipswich and Suffolk’s hospitality sector is a key cornerstone of our county’s economy, but it is being pounded into the ground. It is imperative that the Government listens to both the evidence and to the strength of opinion and reduces VAT to 10% for every hospitality business.
On 1st July the campaign will step up a gear when the call will go out to the general public for support. We would urge anyone who works in the sector or who goes out for a meal or likes a pint in their local pub to sign the petition and help reach the target of 1 million signatures.
