Suffolk Chamber's response to The Jockey Club's ten-year plan
Sarah Howard MBE, president of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce :
“Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is delighted by this news. The horseracing industry is a key component in Suffolk’s ongoing economic prosperity. This announcement is particularly significant for two reasons.
“Firstly, the prospective new purpose-built all-weather course, which would be the third course in the local area, would confirm Newmarket’s rightful claim to be the world’s horseracing capital, positioning Suffolk as a market leader in this sector alongside an increasing number of others.
“Secondly, the Jockey Club’s proposals to invest more than £500 million into British Racing over the next ten years is good news for the industry and hence Suffolk in underwriting the long-term success of the whole industry.”
Matthew Darroch-Thompson, chair of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce in Newmarket & District:
“Suffolk Chamber of Commerce in Newmarket & District is very pleased by the Jockey Club’s plan.
“This announcement is a massive vote of confidence in Newmarket and the surrounding villages. These proposals will mean more jobs, more inward investment and more expanding businesses in our area – both those within the horseracing industry and others in the tourism and services sector.
“This decision could make a significant contribution in ensuring that Newmarket is one of Suffolk’s boom towns.”
