Suffolk Chamber welcomes new prime minister: urges delivery of A14 upgrade promise
Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the election of Rt. Hon Boris Johnson MP as the new leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.
John Dugmore, chief executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, said: “We welcome Boris Johnson as the new Conservative leader and Prime Minister.
“As we have reiterated to past administrations, we need a Government that is pro-business: one that sets free the skills and talents of all entrepreneurs and creates the right conditions for sustainable economic growth.
“At a national level, this means avoiding a Brexit that is chaotic and disorderly. At a county level, this means investing in the road, rail and telecoms infrastructure in Suffolk which has an absolutely vital role to play in delivering a bright free trade future for the UK.
“On his recent visit to Suffolk, Mr Johnson pledged his backing for our campaign to upgrade the A14 in Suffolk. We have written to him to both convey our congratulations on his becoming Prime Minister and reminding him of his public pledge of support for this vital economic highway.”
Graham Abbey, president of Suffolk Chamber added: “The message to Boris Johnson from business communities around the UK couldn’t be simpler: the time for campaigning is over — and we need you to get down to business.
“Tomorrow our national body, the British Chambers of Commerce, will be sending him specific steps he can take — right now — to rebuild business confidence swiftly over the coming days.
“We will work with the new Prime Minister wherever we can to make these proposals a reality, but we will also hold him and his government to account for delivery.”
