KVF35 Supply Chain Day, West Suffolk College, 28 January 2020
In addition to designing and constructing a number of assets at RAF Lakenheath, the KVF35 project has set some high targets for itself in terms of social value. In order to succeed in these targets it is vital that we harness the support of the whole supply chain.
To this end, on the 28 January, we organised a workshop for the supply chain. All subcontractors on the KVF35 project were invited along with a number of stakeholders. 10 subcontractors attended the event, and we heard presentations from the USAF, Supply Chain Sustainability School, Community Wood Recycling, CITB, TrAC apprenticeship scheme, New Anglia LEP, West Suffolk College and the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.
The social value manager, Rachel Newell, shared information about a number of initiatives that subcontractors to get involved in including the monthly video conferencing career sessions with Mildenhall school, signing up to be a mentor for Buildforce, work placements, community days planned on the airbase and upcoming careers fairs. Rachel also shared details about how we measure social value and report to the client.
At the end of the event, everyone completed pledge cards detailing how they would contribute to social value on the project over the next 12 months. Feedback from attendees was very positive, with a number of people saying they did not realise all the different aspects of social value and that it included environmental initiatives as well as upskilling the current workforce. Many thanks to West Suffolk college for supplying the venue and for CITB for funding the lunch.
