Creative Joy designs landmark celebratory brochure for Understanding Society

Understanding Society is the largest longitudinal household panel study of its kind and provides vital evidence on life changes and stability. Spring 2021 saw the Study launch its tenth Insights report, celebrating 10 Waves of Data and the research which has benefited from longitudinal data, examining change in people’s lives over time.

Over 80 pages, Insights addresses:

• civic engagement

• education and training

• employment and non-employment

• family, household and social connectedness

• health and health behaviours

• income, consumption and wealth

My brief was to create a superior quality, celebratory brochure that would champion the work carried out since the Study began. This included the creation of a new logo, that would be used not only in the brochure but also across other marketing associated with the Study’s landmark achievement. The brochure features specially commissioned illustrations and a dynamic and distinctive design throughout that celebrates the importance of longitudinal data. The premium print finish elevates the feel of the brochure to create a lasting positive impression; soft touch laminate, wrap-around cover with metallic foil blocking and beautiful end papers – all printed on recyclable, high quality matt stock.

I also created a digital version of the brochure, so that this could be shared as widely as possible

Attention seeking design for marketing
Article by Creative Joy

Creative Joy is a small design studio based here in Suffolk, helping local organisations attract more customers through original and effective design for marketing.

Launched in 2009 by me, Joy Day, Creative Joy offers a refreshing alternative to the traditional design agency. Offering the full creative service, from logos to packaging and design for print and web, I can ensure seamless brand consistency

Over the last 10 years I’ve stayed deliberately small. As a one-woman operation I work directly with local business owners and marketing managers, building solid relationships where I truly understand my clients’ brand, their objectives and what they want to achieve through their marketing.

When the project requires I collaborate with a select team of trusted local specialists; including printers, website developers and photographers. This means I can offer the full creative service, whilst keeping my service flexible and my overheads modest.

Clients include University of Essex, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Suffolk County Council, plus many other independent organisations including local Sixth Forms and Colleges.
