BASCA replace “clunky” open source website with striking and powerful web solution from netXtra

Suffolk-based website design and development company netXtra are pleased to announce the launch of a new website for BASCA - The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. The new site - - is the result of a complete online overhaul that has seen netXtra replace BASCA’s old open source Joomla website content management system (CMS) and design, with a new dynamic solution, supported by netXtra’s comprehensive Xanadu CMS.

For the last 4 years BASCA had unwittingly compromised on their website’s manageability, with what they described as a “clunky” open source Joomla site. In view of these limitations, BASCA opted for the reassurance of expertise in the membership sector and approached netXtra.

As well-established specialists in the design and development of membership websites, netXtra worked with BASCA to design, develop and also integrate the new fully content managed website with their bespoke back office CRM system. This approach offers many benefits, including an easy and secure login members’ area, and separate Executive and Board Only areas; two useful facilities that provides BASCA’s senior management with convenient access to important meeting information, such as meeting dates, agendas, minutes and papers. The website’s back-office integration also allows members to keep their own personal details up to date, saving BASCA time and money in CRM administration.

Vick Bain, BASCA’s Chief Operating Officer said “The build has been a pleasurable process, with the staff at netXtra being a joy to work with - polite and helpful, providing great communication, whilst offering plenty of innovative ideas and suggestions – something that does not always happen with IT specialists!”

The new site raises the profile of BASCA and provides members and other visitors with music industry-focused information and improved educational resources, as well as a raft of new interactive content. It also better promotes the benefits of membership, whilst also streamlining the joining process itself.

Among the many popular features, is a new facility where members can log in to the site and post their own music and video files to their personal web page, allowing them and others in the wider BASCA community to promote their work to new audiences. In another dynamic move, members from all musical genres can add ‘collaboration’ tags to their own BASCA web page, allowing them to find other collaborators in specific genres and locations.

The new site also hosts a viewable catalogue of ‘First Performances’. Designed to appeal to BASCA’s ever-growing classical community, members can register the first performances of their compositions and then get the opportunity to have them featured randomly on the website’s homepage.

The new BASCA site will naturally remain the hub for all news relating to BASCA’s lobbying work, both in the UK and across Europe. A new ‘Public Affairs’ section will detail all of the latest developments for BASCA’s current campaigns, including Commission Fee Guidelines, Format-Shifting, Coercion and Collective Licensing.

Other site features include an Events calendar where visitors can get details for key dates in the music industry diary, plus regular interactive voting polls that give members the chance to have their say on topical issues.

In summarising, Ms Bain said “Overall, we’re very happy with new website. The project went brilliantly and the website does everything I had anticipated, and more. “
