Have Your Say on Suffolk’s Local Government Review

Suffolk’s five borough and district councils (Babergh, East Suffolk, Ipswich, Mid Suffolk and West Suffolk) are hosting a series of business-focused meetings on the Local Government Review (LGR).

The LGR process involves proposals to replace Suffolk’s current two-tier local government system with new unitary councils. At present, two separate cases are being developed:

  • Suffolk’s borough and district councils are preparing a joint proposal to create three new unitary authorities to deliver all existing local government services.

  • Suffolk County Council is preparing an alternative business case to establish a single countywide unitary authority.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has set out five principles against which it believes these options should be assessed, to ensure that any changes maximise benefits for businesses and strengthen Suffolk’s economic growth.

To inform their proposal, the borough and district councils are inviting Suffolk businesses to share their views. A series of meetings have been arranged, each starting at 7.45am for 8.00am:

We encourage Chamber members and the wider business community to take part in these discussions and help shape the future of local government in Suffolk.
