The East of England has a major role to play in the UK’s nuclear future.

A new Nuclear Prospectus from GENERATE sets out a clear and credible case for the East of England’s long-term role in supporting the UK’s nuclear ambitions, building on the depth, capability and ambition that already exists across the region’s business community.

The Prospectus outlines proposals to establish a Nuclear Operations and Maintenance Centre of Excellence in Suffolk, building on the region’s existing nuclear assets, including Sizewell B and the delivery of Sizewell C. The ambition is to ensure the economic benefits of nuclear investment extend well beyond construction and are embedded into long-term operations, skills development, and supply-chain activity.

John Dugmore, Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, said:

"As the organisation closely involved in supporting and building the Sizewell C supply chain, Suffolk Chamber is playing a central role in setting out the vision and delivery of Nuclear East, coordinating industry, skills and supply‑chain capability to ensure the East of England plays a pivotal role in the long term sustainability of Nuclear in the UK, as we enter this golden age of opportunity and growth in an increasingly important energy sector."

The East of England’s nuclear projects are expected to generate 4.4GW of low-carbon baseload electricity, enough to meet the needs of 8.5 million UK homes, underlining the region’s importance to national energy security and long-term economic resilience.
