Suffolk Chamber International launches revamped courses to help the county’s export push

“As never before the UK’s prosperity will be secured by our successes in exporting goods and services around the globe. Suffolk Chamber International, part of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, is here to help our local businesses become world-beaters!”

Jim Fanshawe, manager at Suffolk Chamber International and an international trade expert, was speaking at the launch of its revamped programme of courses aimed at giving every Suffolk business the chance to become exporters for the first-time or to improve their current overseas trade activities.

Over the next year or so, Suffolk Chamber International is running a series of modules covering all of the key elements needed to become a sustained and successful exporter. There are seven modules:

  • Export documentation

  • Export documentation and import procedures (a more detailed workshop)

  • Understanding International Commercial Terms

  • Methods of payment and Letters of Credit

  • Creating an Export Strategy

  • Managing agents and distributors

  • Customs procedures and Preferential Rules of Origin

All courses are British Chamber of Commerce accredited, and equivalent to NVQ Level 2. Each module successfully completed counts towards the nationally recognised Foundation Award in International Trade. The successful completion of six modules will be required to obtain the full Foundation Award in International Trade.

Each module will cost £200 for Suffolk Chamber members and £250 for non-members for full day courses. Eligible companies will be able to save 25% of the costs of each course through the Employer Training Incentive Pilot scheme (contact etip@suffolkchamber.co.uk).

“One of Suffolk Chamber’s four pillars of operation is international trade. We believe that these courses will make a significant contribution to ensuring the county’s businesses are at the forefront of the country’s export push” added Jim Fanshawe.
