Chantry Academy Students finish Construction & Built Environment Award

Chantry Academy Students finish Construction & Built Environment Award

It was mixed emotions for us last week when we said goodbye to the 10 students from Chantry Academy that have been with us for over a year, studying towards their BTEC First in Construction and the Built Environment.

This programme, which was the first of its type that we have delivered here at Eastern Region Training, turned out to be a huge success, with each student achieving at minimum a Level 1 Pass, and the majority picking up Level 2’s & merits. Whilst with us, each student had the opportunity to not only learn about the theory involved in construction and the built environment, but to also have a go at it themselves. Some of the highlights of the course included students learning to plumb their own bathrooms from start to finish, and then install sinks, baths and toilet units too, along with tiling to finish off. The students also had a fantastic afternoon at local construction company, Carter Building where they were given a great insight into what working for a construction company involves.

Over the course of the programme, the students from Chantry Academy have grown in confidence, with many expressing a strong desire to pursue a career in construction once they leave school this summer, and some already having secured apprenticeships with local contractors and others enrolled onto further education programmes in construction. This is something we are extremely proud of, and hope it will go some  way to help ease the skills shortage in the construction sector.

We would like to personally thank Chantry Academy for their support during the delivery of this programme, which has proven to be invaluable. We would also like to announce that CITB have pledged £7500 worth of funding to this programme for 2 new cohorts of 10 students, if you are interested in taking advantage of this funding, or would like to discuss further please get in touch with us on 01473 830255.
