Are you prepared for the year ahead?

Terrorism is nothing new, but in recent times the scale, geography and increased publicity of attacks, as well as the UK’s involvement in the Syrian conflict, have created a new level of awareness.  At the moment, the possibility of a terrorist attack is regularly in the news.

We have been thinking about how this may impact on you as an employer and your duty to employees.  With that thought in mind please find a couple of interesting links below, which you may find useful:

The current threat level for international terrorism in the UK is SEVERE https://www.gov.uk/terrorism-national-emergency/terrorism-threat-levels

You are probably already aware of the National Police Chiefs Council guidance of what to do in the event of a terrorist attack and advice for people being caught up in such an event.   Due to events in the UK and aboard, people are understandably concerned about a firearms or weapons attack and bombing and whilst such incidents are rare it also helps to be prepared. www.npcc.police.uk/StaySafe

Details of a free app called CitizenAID  - which has been developed as a benevolent initiative for the public and offers step-by-step advice at www.citizenaid.org;  this can be used a useful reminder of the basics and perhaps a good example of how to take sensible precautions, but also put any threat into perspective.

The overall message is clear – it costs nothing to ensure staff are supported, prepared and, crucially, well-informed.  If you need to review your support, communication, lone working and travelling/working abroad policies, please do not hesitate to contact us.
