Political Expert's Guide to Gordon Brown
Well-known Essex political commentator Prof Anthony King enthralled some of the area's leading businesses recently with his views of the new Prime Minister.
More than 80 business people attended the latest Colchester Breakfast Forum held in the Barn Brasserie in Great Tey, organised by PKF Accountants & business advisers, Birkett Long solicitors and HSBC.
It is one of two events held annually to provide a networking opportunity for local businesses and organisations.
The speaker, Prof Anthony King, political analyst, broadcaster, writer and professor on the British Government at the University of Essex, gave the audience his analytical view of "Gordon Brown. so far."
He told them his view and that of insiders in Mr Brown's camp but admitted that it was hard to judge the man in his new role as he had only been in office for some 100 days.
What he knew of the new PM was that he was a workaholic, a good debator and "even his enemies credit him with a genuine concern for the human condition".
In conclusion he said Gordon Brown remained a mystery not only to himself but to others around him and his message was "watch this space".
Graham Randall, at partner at PKF in Ipswich said: "It was a very enlightening speech and a real treat to hear the opinions of someone who knows our government and its insider dealings so well."
