Businesses inspire Beccles students to be great entrepreneurs
Pupils at Sir John Leman High School were given today (15th November) a businessperson’s-eye view of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur as they participated in a Young Chamber entrepreneur event.
Young Chamber is an initiative run by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce aimed at bridging the worlds of education and work. Young Chamber Plus & Gold members are able to access a number of additional products from the Chamber’s suite of services including support in recruiting business governors, CV writing workshops for students, talks from local businesspeople and help in hosting careers fayres.
As part of its package Sir John Leman opted for Suffolk Chamber to bring together eight organisations to give talks and deliver practical workshops on everything from developing a business concept, identifying core skills, how to fund a start-up business, to the importance of branding and the effective use of social and multi-media platforms.
As well as Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, the event was attended by the Institute of Directors, the Enterprise Advisor for Sir John Leman, Lloyds Bank, CrowdFundMe2, Positive FX Studio, Marianne Muir Ltd and Affinity PR.
Over 50 year 11 and 6th form Business Studies students participated in the morning-long event.
The school's Careers & Aspirations Manager, Allison Copeman added, 'The event has provided the opportunity for our students to understand how their Business Studies course can be applied in the world of work and I would like to thank the speakers for passing on their knowledge and experience to our inspiring entrepreneurs. I am grateful to Ashleigh for organising a relevant and comprehensive event and look forward to continue working with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce again over the academic year.'
Ashleigh Seymour-Rutherford, who runs Suffolk Chamber’s Young Chamber initiative “this was an inspiring event. It was great to see so many keen and energetic young people beginning to understand the basics of what it takes to be a truly successful businessperson.
“Young Chamber Plus can really make the difference in bringing together students and businesses and so ignite the spark that could lead to the wealth creators of tomorrow.”
