“Let there be light! – and laughter!”: Lowestoft’s Christmas event revealed

Christmas 2019 promises to be a particularly memorable one for the people of Lowestoft as the organisation behind the town’s Business Improvement District announces its plans for kicking-off the festive season.

Lowestoft Vision, which is managed by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, has invested in brand new lighting and other attractions, aimed at impressing and inspiring residents and visitors in equal measure.

The event is scheduled to take place on 30 November along London Road North, between 1pm and 6pm.

There will be a range of street entertainment, including Santa satnav, stilt walkers and various princess characters.

The Stage entertainment kicks off at 3pm. Hosted by The Beach, this will include local performances from Group A, Cantors Theatre School, Baden Aldridge, Adam Evans and Marina Theatre’s Snow White panto cast.

In addition, So Laissez-Faire and Slick Division will also be performing their charity single – which they are hoping will reach the Top 40.

Santa’s Grotto will be located at the Citizens Advice Bureau, St Margaret House Gordon Road.

Lowestoft Vision will also be running an Elf on the Shelf competition, whereby the public have one hour to find four elves cunningly hidden in four different town centre businesses to record each of their names.

One winning family will be randomly selected from the competed entries and will be invited on stage to switch on the lights.

Dan Poitras, the chair of Lowestoft Vision and manager of the Britten Centre, said: “We’ve listened very carefully to the feedback from previous Christmas events, have invested in new lights and other attractions and genuinely believe that this year will be the perfect showcase for Lowestoft and its town centre retailers, combining light and laughter!”
