Patron News: Agreement for the use of land at local ports signed

Three sites at local ports have been secured for use by Sizewell C as the project prepares for the start of construction.

The move will help deliver the project’s transport strategy which will see 60% of freight moved by sea and rail and reduce the number of trucks on local roads.  Offsite port storage space of the scale required by Sizewell C is limited so early sourcing of space is a crucial step in the delivery of the project.

The agreement secures storage space for construction materials at strategic local locations – two sites at the Port of Lowestoft and one site at the Port of Ipswich from Associated British Ports (ABP), which provides certainty and confidence for delivery planning, whilst granting optionality and flexibility to account for possible changes in the future.

Julia Pyke, Joint Managing Director of Sizewell C, said: “This is a key step in delivering on our Community Pledges to keep disruption to local communities to a minimum and transport the majority of freight using sea and rail to reduce the number of HGVs on local roads.  These strategically significant areas of land at the Ports of Lowestoft and Ipswich will help ensure we have the right space available to keep the project running smoothly.”
