Insightful Market Event with Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, successfully hosted a market event dedicated to exploring trade opportunities between Suffolk and Egypt. The event, held at the University of Suffolk, brought together business leaders, exporters, and importers to discuss the evolving trade landscape and potential areas of collaboration.

The UK and Egypt share a robust trade relationship, with Egypt ranking as the UK’s 47th largest trading partner in 2023. The total trade of goods and services between the two nations amounted to £4.7 billion. Notably, the East of England emerged as Egypt’s 3rd largest trading partner for imports and exports in 2023, highlighting the region's significant role in this bilateral trade.

The event featured a keynote address by Mark Lawrence, Managing Director of the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce. Lawrence provided an in-depth overview of Egypt's changing economic landscape and identified key sectors ripe for investment and trade, including infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, education, and outsourcing. He emphasised the price competitiveness of Egyptian products and the high regard for UK quality in Egypt. Additionally, Lawrence highlighted the support available for businesses in finding verified partners and understanding cultural nuances, which are crucial for successful trade relationships.

Key agenda items included:

  • Overview and changing landscape of Egypt
  • Trade opportunities and strategies
  • Guidance on how to trade with Egypt

The event also facilitated vibrant networking sessions, enabling attendees to connect and discuss potential trade missions in agriculture and aviation. These discussions underscored the mutual interest in expanding trade ties and exploring new markets.

"This event has been instrumental in opening new avenues for Suffolk businesses to explore opportunities in Egypt," said International Trade Manager, Koyas Miah, who chaired the event. "We are committed to supporting our members in navigating the global market and fostering strong international partnerships."

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce extends its gratitude to all participants and looks forward to continuing this dialogue and collaboration. The Chamber remains dedicated to helping local businesses expand their global reach and seize new opportunities.
