Indonesian Ambassador Visits Suffolk to Strengthen Trade, Investment and Educational Links
Suffolk Chamber of Commerce welcomed His Excellency Desra Percaya, the Ambassador of Indonesia to UK, accompanied by senior colleagues from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, for a full-day programme aimed at deepening economic, educational, and strategic ties between Indonesia and the region.
The visit highlighted the growing international relationship between Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy and Suffolk, one of the UK’s most internationally connected counties.
The delegation began the day with a visit to the Port of Felixstowe, the UK’s busiest container port and a critical gateway for UK–Asia trade. Port executives provided an overview of operations, investment plans, and supply-chain opportunities that link British businesses with high-growth markets such as Indonesia.
The Ambassador and the Embassy team then toured the University of Suffolk, meeting academic leaders to explore potential collaboration in education, research exchange, student mobility, and skills development aligned with Indonesia’s fast-growing digital and innovation sectors.
The centrepiece of the visit was a strategic roundtable hosted by Suffolk Chamber, attended by business leaders, policy makers, and academic partners. The discussion focused on practical steps to strengthen bilateral trade and investment flows.
The roundtable centred on discussions around understanding emerging trade and investment opportunities in Indonesia, exploring potential collaborations and partnerships and learning about Indonesian government priorities and incentives.
The visit reaffirmed the strong and growing relationship between Indonesia and Suffolk, particularly in areas such as maritime logistics, education, green energy, technology, agriculture, and professional services.
Quote from Suffolk Chamber International Trade Manager, Koyas Miah:
“This visit marks a significant step forward in strengthening Suffolk’s relationship with Indonesia. The insights shared today highlight real, tangible opportunities for our local businesses, particularly in sectors where Suffolk already excels, such as logistics, clean energy, food production, and innovation. We look forward to supporting our members as they explore partnerships and expand their global reach into this fast-growing market.”
