Today is International Women's Day and it provides a key moment to celebrate women's achievements in the workplace. To mark the day Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to sign its Gender Equality in Business Pledge.

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce believes strongly that a more diverse workplace will deliver better results for Suffolk businesses. The Gender Equality in Business Pledge shows a business is a supporter of gender equality and diversity; with senior managers championing diversity, providing staff training and removing any obstacles to greater diversity.

Michelle Pollard, Managing Director of Spider and Chair of Suffolk Chamber's Business Women group said “Businesses that create an inclusive culture are more likely to recruit and retain talented and committed people. On International Women's Day it is appropriate to highlight the business benefits of equality and diversity.”

John Dugmore, Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce added: “As well as signing up to the Chamber’s Gender Equality in Business pledge, businesses can access a package of support and information from Suffolk Chamber so that they can retain and improve the lives of all their staff.

“This includes support for staff going through the menopause, where businesses can also access a template policy for their own business, and the opportunity to have your say in what skills are needed both now and in the future through the Norfolk and Suffolk Local Skills Improvement Plan.”

In 2023 Suffolk Chamber of Commerce will also be supporting the British Chambers of Commerce's Levelling Up for Women in the Workplace campaign and will continue to make the case for Government to provide more help with childcare costs.
