Aspirations Anglia

Aspirations AngliaIntroduction

Aspirations Anglia has been developed in response to the Department for Education report ‘Careers guidance and inspiration in schools’ (April 2014 & March 2015). This report emphasises the fact that schools are required to provide independent careers guidance for all Years 8 to 13 pupils. All pupils should have information to help them make informed choices about the education and career pathways available to help them reach their potential.

Our aim is to work with schools to assist them in meeting these requirements by ensuring their pupils have access to valuable independent and impartial guidance to help them make education, training and occupational choices and progressing on to manage their careers with the main emphasis of concentrating on the best interests of the individual.

Our new service is offered as an independent division of West Suffolk College which has been providing information, advice and guidance to prospective and existing students for a number of years. This is a completely impartial, confidential and independent careers service delivered by a team of dedicated professional advisors who have over 25 years of experience in working within the education sector.

Our advisors are CRB/DBS checked and are qualified to current QCF guidelines holding Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. They undertake continuous professional development and research to ensure all information they provide is accurate and up to date with current employment and skills sectors. They also have experience of working within the National Careers Service and wider community service delivery adhering to Guidance Council Standards.

Our service has achieved Matrix Standards accreditation since 2004, having been reassessed in May 2015. This means that our provision has consistently met the International standards and benchmarking of best practice for organisations in providing a high quality Information, Advice and Guidance service. Through this we help to support individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals as well as providing careers guidance, support for learning and assist in reducing barriers to opportunities.

So what can we offer?

Aspirations Anglia can offer a range of careers guidance services to schools tailored to meet their specific needs or requirements.

We are happy to come in and meet with you to discuss what your school aims to provide and will work with you to deliver an individual and bespoke plan.

Our advisors can deliver a regular careers service or one off sessions on your school premises to pupils from Years 6 to 13.

We are happy to deliver group sessions and develop a variety of activities to engage your pupils in trying new skills and recognising existing ones. This will be tailored to the age group and can take place either in the school or through taster sessions at West Suffolk College.

Our one to one careers sessions are aimed at helping individuals to make informed choices about their future. We can advise on continuing in education, apprenticeships and entering employment. We can also help to explore individual career aims and goals, providing information on sector skills, qualifications and training needs.

Our employability workshops can assist pupils with developing skills such as job search, completion of application forms, CV writing and covering letters. We can also conduct mock interviews and feedback sessions.

We can use a combination of computer based resources, role play psychometric testing and paper based exercises to be flexible to the needs of the students and the accommodation available.

Additional Careers Guidance sessions:

These can be arranged at an additional cost in consultation with the school.
