Suffolk Chamber boosts its team with senior policy pick

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, the voice of business in the county, has announced the appointment of Andy Walker as its new head of policy & research.

Prior to joining Suffolk Chamber, Andy worked in public affairs and was most recently communications and engagement officer at the Greater Cambridge Partnership. The Partnership is the local delivery body for a City Deal with central Government, bringing powers and investment, worth up to £1 billion over 15 years.

Andy will head up Suffolk Chamber’s policy development to help deliver its key objectives contained within its Manifesto for Business, contribute to the many partnerships in which the Chamber is involved and coordinate responses to major local and national consultations that might impact on Suffolk’s business community.

Amanda Ankin, Suffolk Chamber’s operations director, said: “Andy was the standout candidate in a crowded field of very talented people.

“His experience, knowledge and contacts will ensure that we continue to be at the forefront in shaping the policies of national government, the various local enterprise partnerships in the region and local councils to ensure they are as business-aware and friendly as possible. He will also be a key link in our ongoing work with our national organisation, the British Chambers of Commerce.”

Andy Walker added: “It’s certainly an exciting time to have joined Suffolk Chamber, with Brexit happening and further investment needed in the county’s transport and infrastructure.’ So it’s an incredibly important time to influence policy and decision-making at both the local and national level.”
