 Music means money: Suffolk Chamber event highlights culture’s contribution to the economy

Suffolk businesses have an exciting chance to hear at first-hand plans for one of the iconic cultural centres in the county as well as an overview of the culture sector’s growing importance.

Snape Malting’s Chief Executive Roger Wright CBE will be speaking on 24 April at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s next networking lunch in association with Suffolk Coast Business and sponsored by Lexus Ipswich.

Roger is one of the most experienced and inspirational arts administrators in the UK. Chief executive of Snape Maltings since 2014, he was Controller of BBC Radio 3 and Director of BBC Proms for 17 and 7 years respectively. Having been awarded a CBE for services to music in 2015 and appointed to the Board of the Royal Opera House in September 2017, Roger is recognised as one of the UK’s most experienced cultural leaders both nationally and internationally.

Roger will be outlining his future plans and aspirations for Snape Maltings, as well as talking about his own exciting journey from controller of BBC Radio 3 and Director of BBC Proms to where he is today.

Amanda Ankin, operations director at Suffolk Chamber said “Suffolk’s creative and cultural industries are booming and their contribution to the county’s economy is growing.

“It is estimated that as much as 5% of the total Suffolk workforce is directly employed in this sector. In addition, the county is becoming an increasingly popular filming location - with over 200 registered location.

“It is no surprise that these industries have been identified as a growth sector in the Suffolk Growth Strategy.

“Roger’s talk is a must-attend for anyone interested in finding out more about this sector in general and his plans for the Snape Maltings complex in particular.”

Roger Wright will be speaking at this event, which will be held at Snape Maltings from 11.30am to 2pm on 24 April. Attendees are welcome to attend a free tour of Snape Maltings once the event has concluded.
