Join us at our networking breakfast this November to hear from Dr Nikos Savvas, CEO and Principal of West Suffolk College. Last academic year was an extremely exciting one for the College, including being awarded the Education Setting of the Year for Suffolk at the Raising the Bar Awards, winning Best Teaching and Learning Initiative Award from the 2017 TES FE Awards, and receiving national recognition from the Prime Minister. Now, with a new year well underway it is clear that they have no intention of slowing down, having already been shortlisted for two AoC Beacon Awards, (the Careers and Enterprise Company Careers Educations and Guidance Award, and the Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships Award), and, after a very successful pilot, have launched their ‘Journey to Work’ initiative at 6 centres across the county; working with the DWP to support local people back into work.

With over 800 staff, a turnover of approximately £30m, the largest apprenticeship provision in the East and an influential network stretching out across the region, West Suffolk College plays a crucial role in the local economy and in equipping students and businesses with the requisite skills to ensure Suffolk’s prosperity. From his unique perspective, Nikos will be updating us on various projects including the National Centre for Science and Engineering and the new Abbeygate Sixth Form, and covering the “hot topics” to inform us of the specific ways in which West Suffolk College can benefit our businesses.

About our speaker: Dr Nikos Savvas, whose background is in particle physics, has been Principal and CEO of West Suffolk College since September 2013. In addition, Nikos is the Chief Executive of the growing Suffolk Academies Trust, a member of the New Anglia LEP Board and Skills Board, and Chairs both the Association of Colleges in the Eastern Region (an association of 44 colleges from Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, and six outside the eastern region), and the Suffolk Energy Coast Delivery Board's Skills Sub Group, and is also one of the founders of the International Festival of Learning Suffolk. He lives in west Suffolk with his wife and three young daughters.
