To ensure future resilience, Suffolk businesses need to plan for continuity in challenging circumstances - COVID-19; the UK’s departure from the EU and continued dislocation to global supply chains. The Suffolk Public Sector, business intermediaries and key stakeholders all have a role to play in creating the right frameworks, support structures and the necessary conditions, not only to restart the recovery of the Suffolk economy following COVID-19 but to seek an economic future that is more vibrant, open, sustainable and innovative.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Covid-19 Economic Recovery Restart Plan brings together commitments and actions from local authority, private sector, third sector and education organisations to outline the key activities in place to help our region’s economy restart after the COVID-19 pandemic.
It complements local recovery plans being developed at county and district levels, which will cover additional activity, individual places and health and education. The plan will also feed into the Government’s national recovery plan.
The Pensions Regulator are working with HM Treasury and the Department for Work and Pensions to feed into the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme’s central guidance on the pensions element of the grant.

Creating safer places for people and businesses is important to help reduce COVID-19 spreading and help with the recovery of the local economy.
The Government has announced a phased easing of rules around businesses and other properties opening, starting from June.
We all have a part to play in this. Safety is the main focus and the behaviour of people to keep socially distanced and avoid the spread is the first line of that defence. It is the responsibility of businesses to make sure they have the proper measures in place and the public must also play their part in keeping two metres apart and following guidance to stop the spread of infection. Urgent call to local business to produce PPE equipment for Police (Eastern Region)
A call to secure immediate and the ongoing supply of PPE equipment for our frontline Police Officers and staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Following the strategy produced by the government (COVID-19 PPE Plan) and the publication of specifications of PPE equipment required. The police force in the Eastern Region would like to encourage engagement with manufacturers to provide urgent equipment. .
There appears to be access to grants (through central government) and many ‘local’ grants being offered within each region and district which may assist relevant organisations in order for them to adapt their manufacturing processes to produce the PPE equipment required

The Suffolk Coronavirus Community Fund was launched by Suffolk Community Foundation in partnership with the National Emergencies Trust and supported by leading Suffolk organisations including Community Action Suffolk, Suffolk Association of Local Councils, East Anglian Daily Times, Suffolk County Council, District and Borough Councils and all those involved in Suffolk’s ‘Home But Not Alone’ initiative, to help fight the impact of coronavirus on vulnerable people in the county. Suffolk Chamber media statement: response to the Chancellor of the Exchequer's announcements
“Rishi Sunak’s announcements certainly involve big numbers in order to boost business confidence and support over the medium-term through loan guarantees.
“However, Suffolk Chamber’s members and the wider business community, especially in the most vulnerable sectors such as hospitality and logistics, need significant help with their cashflow NOW to pay their staff and keep trading. This means the Government must implement a moratorium, of at least three months, on those taxes which will eat away at companies’ margins: business rates, commercial rents, NI employer contributions and VAT.
"This would deliver an enormous boost to thousands of businesses. And unlike the administration of loan guarantees, this approach would benefit the business community positively much sooner.”
