Many of our learners are long-term unemployed and our referrals come directly from Jobcentre Plus and self-referrals from the community. Our staff members are welcoming and understand that a friendly and supportive manner can help change a negative attitude into a positive outcome for the learner.
We offer a wide variety of courses including Functional Skills, Warehousing, Adult and Child care, Customer Services, Health and Nutrition to name a few.
As the largest independent provider of education in prisons, we provide over two million hours of learning and vocational training each year. We are currently working with 9,000 offenders in ten prisons, delivering high quality of courses that range from basic literacy to the Arts.
What does Prison Education look like?
We ensure that:
Desistance (reducing re-offending) is embedded into all aspects of delivery
There is a fit-for-purpose curriculum to meet employer needs
Leading-edge technology is deployed to support blended learning approaches
There is a positive, productive resettlement for learners, explicitly building social capital
Continuous service improvements take place. The key to this is listening to and acting upon the prisoner/ex-prisoner voice
We have the best educational resources and inspirational tutors to have the most impact
A partnership approach that adds value, we work with specialists like Elite Project Services, Synergy, KTL, Strive Training, Skill Cert, Franklins Training Services, Romulus and Crito Project
WayoutTV offers an in-cell television channel giving those in prison the opportunity to watch, learn and engage in prison education while supporting their rehabilitation, all from their individual cell.
Learning & Development – PeoplePlus has a vast selection of commercial training solutions which focus predominantly on leadership and management. The courses can be delivered in the classroom, via e-learning or as open programmes. They are designed to complement our existing apprenticeship offer.
Our unique skills
Our unique skills, training and techniques have been developed from our extensive experience of helping the hardest to reach in society. Now the largest adult skills and training organisation in the UK, our application to upskilling, commercial training and apprenticeships are re-defining the capabilities in those marketplaces.
PeoplePlus Talent is a talent hub connecting employers with the brightest young talent. It focuses on hiring people based on attitudes and behaviours. The importance of attracting, retaining and developing people is something we’re passionate about championing and with 95% of employers saying they would hire for attitude and behaviours over skill, we know this is a key issue. To maximise our ability to support people, we have reviewed our approach and used evidence-based theory to develop a recruitment process that increases the predictability of recruiting the ‘right fit’ candidates for employers.
Health & Wellbeing
High Achieve – maths/English delivery for Employers - Our high quality, engaging and effective learning resources and programmes are designed by Functional Skills specialists and qualified teachers and we know what works. Our approach is unique, as we teach English and maths in a functional way from beginning to end, so when your learners sit their Functional Skills exam, they will be fully prepared.
We also know how adults like to learn too, with all our content built on sound teaching and learning methods. Our content is written to be clearly understood by learners at each level and uses modern instructional techniques to maintain engagement and build confidence as your learners progress to Level 2.
Carers Hub - We are a commissioned service that works on behalf of Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the CCGs, offering a free service for carers to access when they need support. Independent Living Service - PeoplePlus Independent Living Services achieve this goal by providing information and guidance to people with disabilities, long term illness or special educational need who receive a direct payment or personal health budget, either from social care or health departments, to manage their own care and support package.
A direct payment or personal health budget is where local authorities and/or health commissioners give assessed care funding as a cash payment to people in need of support, rather than directly provided social care services, this gives people a greater control over their lives and how their care is delivered by promoting independence, choice and inclusion.
We offer a range of person-centred services to support people to manage their own budgets. Our skilled team of advisers work with each individual to ensure the right support package is built and maintained.
Employability - Employability is at the heart of everything we do at PeoplePlus. We successfully deliver several contracts across England, Scotland and Wales. All 9 of our contract areas in England are in the top 10 out of 39 in skills-based employability. We have strong relationships with local and national employers who are interested in hiring good people and investing in their development and future. It’s these relationships that help us to secure the right jobs for our customers.
Across the UK our dedicated team of advisors, in-work support mentors, vacancy coordinators, employer relationship managers, enterprise advisors, skills tutors and more are working to reduce unemployment in Britain. Our national footprint means we have extensive relationships, knowledge and employment opportunities across the country that can open new opportunities for our customers.
