Energy
Suffolk is the home of the Energy Coast and a national centre for progressive and sustainable energy provision.
Energy will power the future economic success of Suffolk.
Rising fuel costs and climate change demand more diverse and green energy sources.
Suffolk has the potential to be a key part of the UK’s energy resource offering offshore gas, wind power, bio fuels and nuclear power amongst others. We are rightly proud of our record on renewable energy. The more able we are to rely on our own domestic sources of energy the better.
The energy industry is strategic to the County providing jobs in its supply chain, in nurturing a culture of higher level skills and in bringing substantial inward investment and in underpinning regeneration and economic growth.
Our three energy priorities will be:
Low Carbon Development Unit – we will continue to develop the LCDU and support businesses becoming more environmentally friendly as part of Suffolk’s work to become the UK's Greenest County.
Sizewell – we will work with EDF to ensure the development of Sizewell C benefits local business and local procurement networks creating new energy across the County.
Renewables – as the home of the Energy Coast we will continue to champion and raise the profile of renewable energy providers and ensure their voices are heard in Parliament and with key decision makers.
