Suffolk web company netXtra launches new ‘community’ sites for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

11 Mar 2010
After the worldwide consultation with member girls and young women, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) recently commissioned Long Melford based netXtra to redevelop and launch their new website - www.wagggsworld.org. As a result the site is now more focused on connecting girls from across the world, making it easier for them to participate in global campaigns, whilst also highlighting the international opportunities and programmes available for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. In addition, in its first month since launch, a visitor poll confirmed that over 80% of users liked the new website.
Hundreds of thousands of girls and young women in over 100 countries have already enjoyed exploring the website since its first launch by netXtra in 2005. In enhancing this already highly popular website netXtra have enabled WAGGGS to offer members more things to do online, more ways to share stories and photos and more ways to learn about Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting across the world.
Inspiring member activities worldwide
As well as enhancing the website to make learning about Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting around the world easier, the new site offers many other new attractive features, including a facility that allows members to swap ‘virtual’ badges and scarves, from around the world, online. Members can also participate in ‘geo-caching’ – where members hide containers, called geocaches, outdoors, and then share the map coordinates of the container on the WAGGGS website. They can also add their name to any number of centenary activities or even create their own activity for others to do. Furthermore, members can track how many activities they have done or see how many other girls around the world joined their activity, with the most active getting onto the WAGGGS centenary hall of fame!
Members can also submit their own news stories and events, for posting onto the website, as well as check for upcoming events on the site’s interactive new calendar.
New microsites offer local focus and raise awareness
As well as WAGGGS’ main website, netXtra have also redeveloped and launched the regional and World Centres microsites; providing members with more detailed and up-to-date news and events from around the world. netXtra have also launched a new WAGGGS World Thinking Day website to support an event aimed at raising poverty awareness among everyone and help improve the lives of the poorest people in the world.
