Still smiling after watery mile

Brothers Richard and Alan Pledger along with Alan's wife Alison swim a tough mile for charity

17 Nov 2009

Two directors of local IT Support and Development Company, React Computer Partnership are all smiles after they donned wet suits and took part in the Great East Swim held recently at Alton Water. The Directors, who are also brothers, swam for a mile to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research. Richard Pledger and his brother Alan were also joined by Alan’s wife Alison and the three intrepid swimmers all managed to swim the full mile at the Suffolk water park. ‘We’ve all had to train intensively, twice a week for 4 months, using the facilities at Deben Swimming Pool near our offices in Woodbridge’ Alan Pledger explained. The brothers are normally more used to a much dryer environment, working with all sizes of business to solve their IT issues in East Anglia.

Having been supplied with a safely chip attached to their wetsuits, all three began their swim at 2pm swimming in a clockwise direction with approximately 200 other competitors, swimming the mile-long course marked out on the water park. Richard Pledger, almost had to pull out of the race the week before due to a serious throat infection. However he made it to the event and said of his experience ‘Thankfully I managed to swim the mile, although I was disappointed Alan beat me completing it in just 32 minutes - I’m normally much faster than him!’ Between them the three swimmers are pleased to report they managed to raise £600 for their chosen charity Cancer Research.
