Papworth Trust supports Carers Week 2010

11 Jun 2010

Leading disability charity, Papworth Trust is supporting this year’s Carers Week (14-20 June) with a “Tips and Advice Day” for Carers.  The event is taking place at the Trust’s West Suffolk Disability Resource Centre (WSDRC) at Moreton Hall Estate, Bury St Edmunds on Monday 14 June from 10am to 3pm.

As well as a visit from the Job Plus Bus, the event will be hosting information stands from:

Age Concern
Alzheimer’s Society
Benefits Advice
Parkinsons Society
Practice Advice Team
Self Directed Payments
Suffolk Family Carers
Suffolk Info-Link

Carers will be on hand to look after the person who is cared for to give carers the opportunity to visit the stands. A minibus service has been arranged for people in the vicinity who might not otherwise be able to attend.

Carers Week highlights the vital work done by those who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled.  This year's Carers Week is supported by many famous celebrities with caring experience, including TV doctor, Chris Steele.

Doctor Chris said, “ Many non-carers take their free-time for granted, whether it’s going to the cinema or meeting with family and friends. As a GP I have met many carers who have never received any help or respite and I know how their own health and well-being has suffered as a consequence and just how isolated they can feel. Who’s caring for the carers? Change is needed at grassroots level and Carers Week is vital in raising awareness and promoting carers’ issues.”
