Muntons focus on supply chain

Muntons plc based in Stowmarket Suffolk has announced the appointment of Ivan Bishop to the newly created position of Supply Chain Development Manager.

Ivan brings with him a wealth of experience in the agricultural supply industry after 40 plus years in the grain trade, specialising in Malting Barley.

Nearly all of the cereals that Muntons use to make their malt and malted ingredients are sourced from within a fifty mile radius of each of their two Maltings, one in Stowmarket and the other in Bridlington, Yorkshire – both prime malting barley growing regions in the UK.  As buyers of well over 200,000 tonnes of cereals annually, and with nearly a quarter of Muntons products sold overseas, improving control over the supply chain will bring benefits to company and local community alike.

The main challenge that Ivan faces is to develop stronger cultural ties between customers, Muntons themselves and their suppliers.  His main role will be to look at ways to improve communication links, and build strong relationships.  Much of this will be achieved through the use of shows, exhibitions, direct contact and events such as supply chain initiatives.

As Ivan puts it “Muntons move a large amount of product over considerable distances, from suppliers through to distributors and final customers and I have been tasked with developing relationships so that all involved parties can contribute to improvements in the supply chain.”  He continued “My aim is to evaluate the supply chain and bring a common sense approach to solving problems to make each link that much stronger for the long term.”

The malt and malted ingredients that Muntons make are used in a wide variety of food and beverages, from beer, whisky and malted milk drinks to bread, confectionery, cakes and sauces.  Muntons are also one of the world’s largest producers of home beer and winemaking kits, which are proving particularly popular with consumers looking to take up this interesting and rewarding hobby.

Janet Waters Of Crystal Combinations

02 Feb 2012

I started my new business, www.crystalcombinations.co.uk , one year ago, designing and handmaking jewellery, and have been delighted with the way the business has been progressing.  The Christmas period was a very busy and exciting time for me, and now at the beginning of the year I am looking forward to getting well ahead with preparations for the forthcoming year.  I love semi-precious stones and in my designs I mainly combine these with other materials such as Swarovski crystals and Swarovski pearls.
