St. Nicholas Hospice benefits from ELD's £1000 top prize
Terry Ball of Bury St. Edmunds based solicitors, Kester Cunningham John, has donated his £1000 prize of free Elwood Landscape Design consultancy time, won by Terry at ELD's 10th Anniversary party, to the charity St. Nicholas Hospice Care, in Bury St. Edmunds.
Areas to be reviewed by ELD, Stowmarket based Chartered Landscape Architects, include the overall grounds layout, materials and features within the recreational spaces around the building and access and furniture throughout the protected woodland.
The Hospice's Chief Executive Officer, Barbara Gale said, 'We are thrilled with the donation and have already put it to good use. ELD is currently preparing drawings and cost estimates for a major funding bid to significantly improve the grounds for patients around the Hospice. We are very excited about the proposals so far.'
If the hospice is successful in their bid ELD will be appointed to formally prepare detailed design plans for planning approval and construction, to permit the works to go ahead within the agreed budget.
ELD's Managing Director, Ruth Elwood added, 'The Hospice provides an invaluable service to people with terminal and life threatening illnesses and their families. The improvements to the grounds will significantly enhance their external environment and we are very pleased that we can contribute to this most worthy cause.'

Sue Burton was the lucky winner. Ruth Elwood visited her at home near Rattlesden one grey winter's day for the consultation. Sue was so impressed with Ruth's enthusiasm and overflowing ideas for her garden during the consultation, that she was inspired to write an article for the 'Suffolk Group Journal'. This has been released in the spring 2010 edition, under the title
