Christmas Waste Wonderland Competition

09 Nov 2007

Did you know on average, each UK household splashes out £23 for Christmas decorations each year - that's more than £500 million in total!

A prickly eight million Christmas trees will be bought this year in the UK, most of which will be thrown away generating over 160,000 tonnes of additional rubbish , that’s 21 times the weight of the Eiffel tower!

Each person in England will throw away an average of 50 kilos of rubbish over Christmas…...

Well we want to save all those green trees and put the waste to good use by creating our very own Christmas masterpiece.

SGR FM have teamed up with Suffolk County Council’s Waste Management Team to run a competition from 26th November through to 7th December where we are asking work places and schools to create a Christmas Waste Wonderland using only waste materials.

Not only will you receive a visit from the Black Thunders to see what you have created, feature on the SGR FM website for Suffolk to see, you could win yourselves a fantastic Christmas group trip for 20 people to see the Christmas Panto at the Ipswich Regent Theatre on Saturday 15th December ( https://online.ipswich.gov.uk/PEO/integration/default.asp ).

This is a great way to get Suffolk involved into an exciting project that will remind people of the importance of recycling over the Christmas period.

Perhaps you could create a Christmas tree made of plastic bottles, make some decorations from sweet wrappers or build a giant santa from toilet rolls. So save those tin cans, crisp packets and put your Blue Peter thinking caps on and get making your festive creation now for your chance to win!
