Business woman finalist in Essex Business Awards
30 Jul 2009
Suffolk Chamber member, Stephanie Valentine, Managing Director and Founder of Topsail Charters, is one of two finalists for the "Excellence in Marketing" Essex Business Award (small to medium sized business).
Stephanie started Topsail Charters, a company offering private hire and public charters on Thames Sailing Barges in 1987, and from small beginnings in her front room in Maldon, has built the business up with her partner to be a substantial player in the local and regional tourism economy and is now based at Cooks Yard on Maldon Quay.
Proud owners of three of these historical vessels, aged between 113 and 79, it is a constant challenge to improve and innovate the business sufficiently to fund their ongoing maintenance. Their barges are regular visitors to Ipswich Waterfront.
Topsail impressed the judges after planning and implementing a marketing plan to "beat the credit crunch" and stay ahead of the competition.
Stephanie will find out if Topsail Charters win the award at a black tie event in September.
