Birketts LLP advises Deben Transport on recent merger

16 Sep 2009

Container giant Deben Transport has announced its recent merger with leading music transport specialist Redburn Transfer.

Deben Transport, which has UK depots in Felixstowe, Manchester, Hull and Southampton, will be offering further support to Redburn in the UK and throughout Europe through its association with many leading players in haulage and logistics.  Deben also has experience in the music sector has been involved in moving and shipping sea freight containers across Europe for music business clients arriving and returning to the USA and other markets.

Redburn Transfer, which has 28 years experience in the music industry, hope to gain many benefits from the merger, giving them access to over 150 additional tractor units and trailers along with the infrastructure and back up associated with a company the size of Deben.

These aims have already started to become realised with Deben confirming over 30 trucks on order for 2010, which will cater for both sides of the business.  Redburn has already taken delivery of three Volvo FH12 Euro 5 tractor units and is in the process of ordering additional tractor units and trailers for delivery later this year to compliment its existing fleet.

Paul Dawson the MD of Deben will utilise his logistics expertise to work very closely with Chris Redburn to achieve this goal. Paul started Deben in 1987 and the company has since grown to be one of the biggest independent container hauliers in the UK with a fleet of 150 trucks.  Paul said “the two companies have strengths in different sectors as well as organisationally but together these strengths will make a formidable group and we are delighted that in a recession we have demonstrated that it is possible to grow and improve financial stability.”

James Austin, partner in Birketts corporate team advising Deben said “It is always good to work in a transaction where the synergies are so obvious and all those involved to clearly have the ambition to make it a huge success.”

Deben were also advised by Keith Ferguson, partner in the corporate finance team at PKF (UK) LLP.
