Young People and Skills - can you help?

19 Jan 2012
Through Young Chamber we have been looking at Employability Skills and young people and how to address the issues that businesses face with regards to young people being ‘work ready’.
We have a number of events coming up that are specifically aimed at addressing this and helping young people.
Pre-Apprenticeship Programme – Schools
We are holding a focus group meeting on 25th January, 3pm, Chamber offices, Felaw Maltings, Ipswich to discuss the idea of an industry led and endorsed pre-Apprenticeship qualification, to include a bespoke technical element and soft skills. We would love to have feedback from a range of businesses, to feedback on the idea and help us design it to meet the needs of business, fill future skills gaps, and to discuss the issues faced when employing young people.
Looked After Children and Care Leavers
This is an event on 23rd February (4.30 onwards – Ipswich tbc) in association with SCC Corporate Parenting. It is aimed at raising awareness of this specific group of young people who, through no fault of their own, lack the networks and connections that most people take for granted, thus lacking opportunities to help them succeed in life.
We will also introduce you to a number of very inspiring young people!
Futures Fair – Copleston High School
Sixth Formers are inviting businesses or business people from all sectors and backgrounds to come along to a Fair they are holding on 29th March from 5.30pm onwards. Would you come and talk to some young people informally about your business; future opportunities; what future skills needs there are; what employers are looking for in young people or starting your own business etc.
Looking to promote optimism!
If you are interested in getting involved with any of the above events or would like further information, please can you contact me; jo@suffolkchamber.co.uk
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We will be promoting all these events in the local press.
Kind regards,
