Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and partners celebrate the Suffolk Carbon Charter

07 Sep 2011

An event on the 12 September will celebrate the achievements of Suffolk businesses that have achieved the Suffolk Carbon Charter - and will provide networking opportunities for those businesses. The event will be on board the Sailing Barge Victor on Ipswich Waterfront, the barge has been kindly provided free of charge to support the initiative. The Co-op East of England is also sponsoring the event.

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Low Carbon Development Unit is a key player in the development of the Charter and is promoting the Charter as significant recognition for businesses that are monitoring and reducing their carbon emissions.

It is now 18 months since the Suffolk Carbon Charter was launched and it is very successful with 40 businesses having now received the Charter.

The Charter is open to small and medium sized businesses to enter (250 employees or less) and there are three levels - Gold, Silver and Bronze for differing levels of achievement.

More information can be found at www.greensuffolk.org/charter

The Charter was developed by Groundwork on behalf of the Environment Agency and Suffolk County Council, as part of the innovative ANSWER project.  ANSWER is developing new solutions to the obstacles blocking a move to sustainability in Suffolk (www.answerproject.eu). ANSWER is led by Suffolk County Council, and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg IVB North Sea Programme.
