Pocket Guide for Businesses to assist visitors during Games launched

Pocket Guide for Businesses to assist visitors during Games launched

22 Jun 2012

A pocket guide designed to provide businesses in the county with useful information that will help them answer questions from UK and overseas visitors to the area during the Games has been launched by Suffolk’s On Our Marks project.

Produced in partnership with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Suffolk County Council, the 16-page guide includes information on how to get around the county, getting to the Games via public transport, ticketing, and towns and villages to explore in Suffolk.

The handy guide also showcases some of Suffolk’s sporting heroes and contains  information about the Pre-Games Training Camps which are being held across Suffolk where local facilities are being used by top international athletes from around the world to acclimatise to the UK before they travel to the Olympic Village in London.

The guide will be issued to companies that have participated in the free ‘Delivering First-Class Customer Service’ workshops, currently being delivered by West Suffolk College and WS Training, designed specifically to assist companies in the county to improve the experience visitors to the area will receive during the Games.

It will also be distributed to members of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and is available to download free of charge at www.risingtothechallenge.org/business

There are a large number of events going on in Suffolk that are inspired by the Games in addition to the many attractions, festivals and experiences the county already offers. This guide summarises this information for businesses in Suffolk and their staff to make the Games a fantastic experience for all visitors.

It is estimated that 500,000 extra overseas visitors and hundreds of thousands of domestic visitors are expected to visit the Games and that consumers will spend an additional £750million in the UK during that time.

John Dugmore, Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber, said: “We welcome this comprehensive guide targeted at businesses who will be engaging with the many visitors the impact of the Olympics will bring to our vibrant County. The Chamber is passionate in ensuring that Suffolk seizes this opportunity, in particular the new business that the games will generate not only during but post Summer 2012.

“We believe we have a truly wonderful proposition for visitors coming to Suffolk and therefore being games ready is a message the Chamber has been advocating for some time now. This guide assists in making those businesses games ready and maximising those Olympic opportunities.”
