New grants available to make Suffolk’s hearts healthier

01 Feb 2012

Community organisations can now tap into grants of around £500 for initiatives that will improve the heart health in Suffolk.

Healthy Ambitions Suffolk, the newly established charity aiming to make Suffolk the healthiest county by 2028, will be making the resource available to well-focused initiatives in March.

Introducing the initiative Dr Peter Funnell, Executive Chair of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk, said:

“We are keen to encourage applications from people and local organisations that have ideas to improve exercise and activity, healthy eating or anything else that improves heart health.”

Dr Funnell added:

“There is much that we can all do to improve the health of our hearts, and we need ideas from community groups that can support and galvanise action.”

The grant giving process is being administered by the Suffolk Foundation on behalf of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk.

Stephen Singleton, Chief Executive of the Foundation said:

“Although these grants are relatively small, it’s the experience of the Suffolk Foundation and Healthy Ambitions Suffolk that sums such as this can make a real difference to a local community."

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) supports the grant giving process and will be working alongside Health Ambitions Suffolk in many initiatives throughout the year.

Diane Card, BHF Community Development Manager for the East of England, said:

“Grants that enable local communities to promote health messages and raise awareness of heart health are something that the BHF supports and actively encourages.”

People and organisations interested in applying for a grant should visit the Suffolk Foundation website at www.suffolkfoundation.org.uk or phone 01473 734120 for advice on eligibility.

The closing date for applications is February 29th.
