Hungry with Ambition

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce initiative Health in the Workplace was the focus for industry leaders at the 2012 Suffolk Show as the voice of business launched the Healthy Ambitions Suffolk Awards for the year ahead.
“The health of employees is widely acknowledged to be an important factor in business performance,” John Dugmore, the Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber told invited guests at the launch of the awards. “Absenteeism carries a huge financial burden for business. We know that 175 million working days are lost every year due to illness costing the UK economy a staggering £100 billion.”
Launched in November 2008, Healthy Ambitions Suffolk has brought together all of the county's leading public services to work alongside the private and independent sectors, community groups and individuals to help everyone in the county enjoy longer, happier, healthier lives.
“To be successful in making Suffolk the healthiest county we need to inspire individuals, businesses and our local communities to take responsibility for their health and to make positive changes to their lifestyle,” said the Chairman of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk and President of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Dr Peter Funnell.
“We know that productivity and profitability are key to workplace health and are the cornerstone of the Awards that we are launching today,” he added.
“Working with our partners,” John Dugmore continued, “the Chamber's initiative of Health in the Workplace aims to create an awareness of the economic benefits of introducing health and well-being in to a business.”
