Chamber’s Year of Health gets off to a flying start

17 Jan 2012

Suffolk Chamber's Year of Health in the Workplace, its campaign for 2012, has got off to a flying start with the announcement of monthly events that will bring businesses the opportunity to have a healthy workforce and a healthy business.

It has also announced its plans to work with Archant to promote this exciting new campaign.

Health in the Workplace is designed to inform and inspire local business about the benefits of introducing a health and wellbeing programme into the workplace.

Whether it’s for a minor cold or a more complex, long-term issue, every employee will need to take time off due to illness at some point during their working lives. The challenge business has is that absenteeism carries a huge financial burden, with more than 175 million working days lost every year due to illness and incapacity, costing the British economy approximately £100 billion.

“Our campaign is aimed at Suffolk businesses, but particularly SMEs,” said the President of Suffolk Chamber, Dr Peter Funnell. “We are creating awareness of the economic benefits of introducing a health and wellbeing programme in a business and signpost to solution providers.”

Some of the events for 2012 will include:

Are you Games Ready?  - February

A free event for up to 100 people in Ipswich, which will work with businesses to see if they are ‘fit’ to make the most out of London 2012.

Freshways to Work - March onwards

Two events that will explain to business how they can work with their employees in ways that will benefit their business, improve the health of the workforce and reduce absence and stress.

The Suffolk Show - June

The Chamber Marquee will have a big focus on Health in the Workplace and will showcase to the thousands of visitors to the Show how businesses and their workforce can get involved.
