Chamber backs Green Economy work of New Anglia

19 Jun 2012

Members of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce joined with business across Suffolk and Norfolk at the launch of the New Anglia LEP Green Economy Pathfinder Manifesto in June.

The New Anglia LEP, whose aim is to drive economic development in Suffolk and Norfolk, was chosen by the Government last year as its green economy “pathfinder”, asking it to report back with recommendations.

Following consultations with the business community across the two counties, the “Green Economy Pathfinder Manifesto” to Government was launched at a reception in the Houses of Parliament.

The manifesto, called “Leading the Way”, sets out both barriers and opportunities for sustainable economic growth, goals and aspirations and features case studies of business and organisations, which are leading the way in developing the green economy.

“The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has supported New Anglia and its work from day one,” said the President of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, Dr Peter Funnell, at the event in London. “It’s intention to bring new jobs to our county is the right intention and we will continue to work hand in hand with them to make this a reality.”

The Green Economic Pathfinder was chaired by Mark Pendlington, the Group Director at Anglian Water who are members of the Suffolk Chamber.  At the launch, which was hosted by Lord Deben, Mark said, “We are delighted to welcome so many business leaders and Members of Parliament here today. It is a sign of the importance of this piece of work and how it can make a real difference to UK plc.”

“The work of the Green Economy Pathfinder team has seen numerous Government departments come together, which also shows the intention there is to make this manifesto something that business and industry across the whole of the UK can use,” he continued.

“This is not the end of the process,” Mark Pendlington said. “It is the start and we look forward to ensuring the challenges set out in this manifesto make a real and lasting difference.”
