Businesses given 50 days to register for the Carbon Reduction Commitment or face fines!

17 Aug 2010

The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) has set a deadline for businesses to register for the emission cutting scheme – Carbon Reduction Commitment. All businesses with a half hourly energy metre will be required to sign up to the scheme, regardless of whether they use the required energy spend (currently set at 6,000MW per annum or roughly £500,000).

With some businesses unaware of the need to register, the Chamber is concerned that many businesses may find themselves liable for fines which could amount to £45,000.

Please refer to the Environment Agency’s Q&A on eligibility to see if your company needs to sign up. Also below is a CRC user guide provided by the Environment Agency.
