Young Chamber Celebrate Opening of New Bistro

Young Chamber Celebrate Opening of New Bistro

21 Mar 2011

Students from Haverhill Young Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the opening of the new Castle Manor Young Chamber Bistro on Tuesday March 29.

The Bistro will allow students to practice the knowledge; skills and aptitudes students have gained on their catering courses by working in a business environment. Catering students will sell to their student peers via the recently completed bistro, conveniently situated next to their teaching room and off a main corridor in the school.  Catering students, via the Bistro project, have already received high praise when they have catered for a small number of Chamber and Best of Haverhill events.

A proportion of the profits from the Bistro will go back into the Young Chamber to aid it in becoming increasingly self-funded and able to take on new projects in the future.  The rest of the profits will be reinvested in the Bistro.

The opening coincides with the annual Young Chamber of Commerce Update and Business Networking event where students will brief local businesses on the activities of the Young Chamber, The Future of the Young Chamber, and an update on how business and enterprise education is changing. Businesses will then be able to sample the food from the Bistro.

Sarah Howard, Chairman of Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College and students who are part of the Young Chamber.

“The Young Chamber was set up to promote links with business, raise aspirations and employability skills, and bring the youth voice to the fore in local issues to Haverhill.”

Matt Bryant, Business and Enterprise Specialist Status Leader for Castle Manor, said: “It is great to see the work of many enterprising members of the Young Chamber, past and present, come to fruition and provide a way for greater numbers of their peers to develop the knowledge, skills and aptitudes they will need to be successful in their future.”

Entry to the Young Chamber Update and Business Networking event is £7.50 + VAT for Members and £13 + VAT for non-Members. Book your place online at www.haverhillchamber.co.uk  For further information on this event, email suewarren@haverhillchamber.co.uk , or telephone 01440 705578.
