Haverhill: Growing for the Future Event Highlights Key Issues for Business Community in 2012

24 Oct 2011
Haverhill to Cambridge transport links, spiralling fuel prices, the town's retail offer, supporting young people, improved broadband and the plans to pedestrianise the high street, were just some of the issues discussed at a joint Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and St Edmundsbury Borough Council event on Friday (21 Oct).
Guest speakers at the event included the town's MP Matthew Hancock; Neville Reyner, Chairman of the Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership; and Alex Till, Chief Executive of the Mid-Anglian Enterprise Agency (MENTA) .
Geoff Rivers, CEO of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, reviewed the year and looked forward to the next 12 months.
The Haverhill: Growing For the Future event took place at Genzyme and encompassed the council’s traditional annual business ratepayers meeting. It was chaired by Cllr John Griffths, leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Sarah Howard, Chairman of Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, said: “It was great to see many of our members there and there was a very interesting discussion on what the priorities should be for the coming year. It is clear to the Chamber that our priorities will be in lobbying for lower fuel prices, working with Matthew Hancock MP in improving transport links between Haverhill and Cambridge, lobbying for a better retail offer in the town and ensuring views on the final plans of the pedestrianisation scheme when we have them are clearly represented."
