Levels of fraud and financial crime in our community unfortunately show no signs of falling - in fact, quite the reverse. In their latest FraudTrack report, BDO Stoy Hayward relay some alarming figures for the first six months of 2008:
• reported fraud cost UK businesses over £705m - a 74% rise on the same period last year • employee fraud is up from 2.5% of all fraud to 11% • fraud in the banking and insurance sectors amounted to £636m • management fraud accounted for 46% of fraud cases and third party fraud for 32%
The objective of the EasternFraudForum therefore remains just as important: to bring together businesses and organisations from both the public and private sectors to combine forces to tackle the fraud threat head on, by actively sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences.
